More about this scene
A little beyond the 450yd-long tunnel at Chirk, the Llangollen Canal is suddenly carried 70 feet in the air over this spectacular stone aqueduct. Here we are looking north across the valley, along Telford's 70ft-high aqueduct of 1801, which carries the Ellesmere Canal. Hugging it closely all the way is the 100 ft-high viaduct, built in 1848 to carry the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway.
