More about this scene
Chorleywood is on the south side of the Chess valley. Chorleywood Common survived an attempt at enclosure and we see it here in its late 19th-century gorse-covered state. The cricket ground is to the left in the distance, the Manor House in the centre and Christchurch spire to its right. At the right is the old rectory of 1870, now replaced by a 1960s' one.
