More about this scene
In the year 901 the Saxon Ethelwald held the castle in rebellion against his kinsman Edward the Elder. The older Saxon church of Holy Trinity then dominated the harbour scenery. The present church was begun at the end of the 11th century by the Norman cleric Roger Flambard.
