More about this scene
The parish church of St John the Baptist overlooks the town. This magnificent building dates from the 12th century, and the splendid tower was built in the early 15th century. Inadequate foundations meant that the tower began to show signs of instability even before it was completed, and it had to be shored up with spur buttresses.
