More about this scene
Pierrot shows arrived in England in 1891. Fred Pullan's Yorkshire-based touring troupe opened in Clacton in 1901. An early handbill described them as 'Up to Date – Thoroughly Refined'. The show came to an end when a gale destroyed the stage in August 1912. By this time, in any case, Pierrots were being supplanted by non-costumed 'fol-de-rol' entertainers.
