Clitheroe, Edisford Bridge c.1965

More about this scene
This was another popular area where children could paddle and swim. By 1972 a swimming pool had opened at Edisford. This scene, possibly taken in high summer after a drought, shows a low water level; but when the river was in spate, a dramatic increase in height could occur at this spot. Early bridges along the Ribble were swept away in floods, and there are many records of flood damage.
