Caption for Cloughton, Blacksmiths Arms Hotel C1955: About 200 years old, the hotel stands next to a fully working blacksmith's shop. To the rear of the photograph, we can see the lychgate to St Mary's church. Lychgates were used as a resting place for coffins on entering or leaving the church.
