Clun, View From The Mowdens c.1950

More about this scene
We can see the village of Clun in the valley, with the keep of its old castle standing guard. Actually this castle was less a military stronghold than a centre for hunting. In medieval times, the Mowdens and the surrounding district were all part of Clun Forest, and subject to Forest Law in much the same way as the New Forest in the south of England.
