My P1 Year After Music College In 1965

A Memory of Cockfosters.

Trent Park was an amazing place to go in the 60’s, after my three years studying music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After busy London it was beautiful to take a year studying philosophy, psychology, sociology and the history of educational ideas, as well as the lovely music wing with other pro music students. We all came here to complete a cert Ed to enable us to teach in schools, for a musician is not necessarily a good teacher. Every morning, I would leave Cockfosters station and walk (there was no transport!) up the one mile long driveway to the college. I remember hearing the cuckoo in the spring and passing a pigsty with wonderful sow and her piglets. This college was something so very special. The rooms in the house where we had our lessons were unspoilt, the library and the whole estate was a place of supreme peace and beauty, with a gorgeous view onto the lake. I shall be for ever grateful that I was able to spend a year here.
