Swatton Family In Collingbourne Ducis

A Memory of Collingbourne Ducis.

In the 1800s my gt gt gt grandparents lived in Collingbourne Ducis, house numbers 5, 21, 71, 53, according to the booklet 'Memories of C. D'. My grandfather John Swatton b.1871, d.1951. My father Leonard Reginald Swatton b.1912 d. 1993 lived I believe for about 5 years with his grandparents about 1922. Whilst he was there his grandmother died and is buried in the church at C.D. Also whilst there he recalled there was a fire and all the men and boys came out and filled buckets of water from the stream that was in front of the house where he lived with grandparents.
Other members of the Swatton family are also buried in the churchyard at C.D.
My grandad - John - settled in Winchester, Hampshire where he met his future wife (Lucy Hutchings), over time they had 6 children - one of which was my father. He out of the six was the only one to have children. My Dad was a Prisoner of War for 5 years from 1940 - 1945. After the war he and my mum settled in Bournemouth, where I was born in 1946. I have lived in Bournemouth all my life.

Valery.
