Book About Collyhurst

A Memory of Collyhurst.

Hi All. I lived in Collyhurst (48-61) and loved my childhood there. Went to St Catherines before we moved to Heywood in 61. Some of you may remember my Mam and Dad, Margaret and John, (we lived at 51 Dalton St). I have just started a long course in Photography at Falmouth University, which finishes in December 2022. For my major project I intend writing and illustrating a book based on the 1950s memories of a Collyhurst Kid (myself of course). I will get some re-enactors to act out scenes from my memory and I will photograph them. Obviously most of the old buildings have gone but I can overcome that with some clever post production photography.

Need help finding people who have photographs of the buildings that were around during the 50s: Dalton St, Birtles St, St Catherines School and Church, The Friendship and Hat & Feathers pubs, The Dwellings (Dwads) as we used to call them), the River Irk, Yaffees derelict building in Bronze St at the top of Birtles St, Rex Cinema etc, etc.

If any of you remember myself or my brother Malc then would love to hear from you. Cheers Bob (Bobby).

Does anybody remember the Friendship Inn and the Hat and Feathers pubs at the top of Birtles Street. Also The Swan, which was nearby. I remember, as a boy, watching Pitch and Toss games after the Friendship closed following the morning/afternoon session on a Saturday or Sunday - not sure. Also remember the boys in blue turning up once. Fun days. If anybody has any photographs from the 50s/60s that I could get copied for my book, would really love for you to get in touch.
