More about this scene
The thatcher's craft is one of the staple industries of broads villages. This photograph shows reeds growing at the edge of a broad, with the cut stalks stacked by the cottage. The shallow-bottomed boat on the right is used for transporting the reeds, and finished thatch can be seen on the roof of the cottage and outhouses.
