More about this scene

This route heads for the beautiful Mendip Hills, the carboniferous limestone ridge that separates the Avon valley and Bath and Bristol from the rest of Somerset. Their character is very different from the Quantocks or Exmoor; here, sheep scratch an existence from the poor limestone soils, and the fields are divided by dry stone walls. The Mendips rise to over 1000 feet, very steeply on the west side. Compton Bishop is at the western end on the slopes of a combe.
