Picturesque this certainly is. Unfortunately, it is also a fake. The ruin was built in the 1700s by Randle Wilbraham to enhance his view from Rode Hall at Scholar Green, where he lived. It later became a meeting place for early Methodists. Today the site is protected by the National Trust.
