More about this scene
The Macclesfield Canal passes through the outskirts of Congleton, complete with an elegant iron aqueduct where it crosses Canal Street, and several attractive bridges. This view shows some of the locks at Bosley, three miles north-east of the town. Here, twelve locks, spaced out over nearly a mile, raise the canal from the long pound which passes through Congleton to the one which runs through Macclesfield and on to Marple.
