Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I so remember Rockingham Road Shops and "early" Corby. I lived in Derbyshire but we often visited Gran who lived at Faraday Grove. Aged just 5 I was sent to Corby (1949) for a month whilst my sister was born. I went to the school further up towards Occupation Road and next to the methodist Church. Further down towards the village (as it was then) there was the Post Office pockmarked with bullets. ...see more
I started work in S&L in late 1945 in the DR&TD. Perhaps the best years of my long life. Married in Weldon and lived in the new town until 1951. Would love to hear from anyone from that era who is still around !! Ian McDowall
When we moved to Corby in 1949, Rockingham Road was the main shopping area. At the corner was Tipaldis Ice Cream Parlour where my cousins would take me after Church on Sunday mornings. I'd later go there with my Boy Friend- oh yes- Tipaldis was THE place to go!
I came to Corby in 1966, we lived in 100a Rockingham Road, the flat above the old fire station which then became Kettering Tyres - my brother Eugene started working there at a very young age, being the tea boy. We where then moved to the old village because we were over crowded in the flat, there was ten of us all together there, but they were the best years of my life. I can still see the steel works all lighted up at night and hear the noise - it was such a shame when it closed down.
