More about this scene
High up above Todmorden, half of which used to be in Lancashire, we find this small Pennine village with a surprising number of mills for its size. The village also supported the 400-seat Gem Picture Theatre in Harrison Street until 1958. This lane from the hamlet of Shore snakes down the hill past a huge mill chimney. Today a bank of windmills is positioned on the crest of the hill, following the age-old tradition of harnessing nature.
