Brakespear Road

A Memory of Corsham.

I was 2 ,1941 when we moved into 19 Brakespear road. My father was an engineer at Bristol Aircraft Co. We were bombed out of Bristol and my father was moved underground to Spring Quarry to build Centaurus engines for Beaufighters.I certainly remember the Americans being there as we would go to the Community centre to get little tins of sweets that, think were army rations.
They were good days, Weavern valley a great favourite, the Back fields behind our bungalow for sledging in winter especially in 1947 when the snow lasted until the end of March.
I worked every Saturday in 'Honeychurches' Hardware in Pickwick road and became great friends of John Honeychurch, sadly gone. The Regal cinema was a great favourite as was the Gaumont in Chippenham on Saturday mornings. I went to the Regis school and in the late 40s had a little allotment at the school. Failed the 11+ but went to Bath Art secondary school Which was great.
Yes Corsham has great memories for me. www.ian-logan.co.uk www.tindesigners.com
