Corwen, And Gaer Drewyn Fort 1947

Hi, you have brought so many memories of when I lived in Corwen in 1958 and went to the school on the hill. I remember Mr Roberts teaching and because I came to live in Wales from England and go to school there I was not allowed to learn Welsh so I had to sit in the class room and it would be in Welsh and I would have to sit there and do my English work from books by myself. I was born in Brook Street, the bottom end of town. I started school at 3 yrs old, loved the old bottom school. We then moved to the big house at the top of Pen y Bryn. I went to top school. I loved singing and dance, so my mother got me and my sister, Enid, into Mrs Hughes dancing group. We won quite a few cups. Enid left but I loved it and stayed on. I heard yesterday (Feb-19-2011) that Mr GWYLFA ROBERTS has passed on. To me, and I'm sure all others who knew him, he was the little man with a big heart! He of course taught Standard Two in Corwen School until he moved to the school at Sarnau,a nd later to the headship of Bala Primary, known to many as "Ysgol Goch" or "Ysgol Meirion Jones". It was abuot 1950, and we were having what we called PT lessons, the infants teacher Miss Olwen Davies had us playing 'What's the time, Mr Wolf?, culminating with 'Miss' (the wolf) turning and chasing us, shouting "Dinner time!", and us running off shrieking with delight!
