The village of Cound is split in two by the Coundmoor Brook - this photograph was taken in Upper Cound, which is separated from the earlier part of the village (where the church stands). Despite their appearance, both the timber buildings shown here date from the early 1900s.

After my grandfather's death the family home at Bishop's Castle was sold and his daughter, my aunt Daisy Probert moved to a rented top floor flat in Cound Hall. At that time the Hall was home to a rich selection of characters living in what my late father called 'genteel poverty' (!). My older brother and I spent several happy school holidays staying there: at that time the lake still had water, and was a beautiful feature ...see more
My ancestor, Matthew Millichip was the Game Keeper for Cound Hall in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. Would love to see any photos of the staff of the Hall in those days.
Cound, was where my four times Grandad got married. He married Sarah Rowe in 1808 - Sarah was born in Cound, anybody even heard of this tiny place?
