More about this scene
By 1941 planning was well under way to rebuild the shattered heart of Coventry. The Broadgate shopping precinct, a series of squares with shops on two levels, was an excellent idea, even if the finished product was dull. In the picture we have two buildings from the 1930s: Lloyd’s Bank (1932) with its giant arch, and the National Provincial Bank with its neo-classical portico.
