Cranham, The Old House c.1965

More about this scene
Notice how the limestone roof slates are smaller at the ridge, becoming larger as they descend towards the eaves of this fine old house. This is typical of a Cotswold roof, which has to be steeply pitched because the slates are porous, so water must run off quickly. The original part of the house was built in 1687, but there are later additions.
