Crickhowell, The Castle 1893

More about this scene
Crickhowell Castle lies 12 miles south-east of Brecon. The original stronghold was a timber motte and bailey, and belonged to the de Turberville family. When rebuilt in stone in 1272 it featured both a shell keep and a shell gatehouse. Also known as Alisby's Castle, it occupied a high vantage point over the Usk. All that remains is a double tower, and although still standing, it is now in danger of total collapse.
