St Peter In Chains & St Gildas School Crouch Hill

A Memory of Crouch End.

My family lived on Mountview Road N8, from 1959 until 1971.
We were blessed with a ground floor flat with cellar, in an old Victorian House at ,No. 35.
We were opposite the reservoir, so had a wonderful view over London.
I also remember clambering down the grassy hill by the railway track on one side of our road, to watch the very last steam train go by.
Being on a hill, I recall many snowy winters, when my brother and I used to help did the cars out of the snow and push them up the hills.
In 1967, as a 7 year old, I remember there was a J Sainsbury's in the Broadway.
Other vivid memories were Dunns Bakery and the Gas
Showrooms with its strange concave windows. As kid's we would spend time looking at our contorted shape reflecting in them.
I had 2 brothers and a sister. My older brother David and I attended St Peter in Chains on Elm Grove, whilst my younger brother and sister attended St Gildas.

Crouch End and the surrounding area will always stick in my memories as a happy and memorable home. Although I now live in Barnet, I often come back for trips down memory lane. Especially the view of the changing skyline from the reservoir on Mountview Road.

Yes I quite agree with you about very fond memories of Crouch End, and I also went to St Peter in Chains School and St Gildas, but we lived in Ferme Park Road, the side near Weston Park.
I worked in Wilsons Department Store when I left School in 1968 on the Hosiery department.
