More about this scene
The Village 1940 Beyond Williton, our route follows the western edge of the Quantock Hills back towards Taunton. Geologically this ridge is the same as Exmoor, but rises only to 1200 feet or so. Along its steeper western face are a number of hamlets, including Bicknoller, at whose village inn Coleridge often drank at the end of a walk over the hills from Nether Stowey. The house on the left in Church Lane has recently been rethatched.
