More about this scene
This scene, looking from the head of Crummock Water towards Buttermere with Honister Crag, Fleetwith Pike, Haystacks and High Stile forming the mountainous background, has hardly changed in a century. The twin lakes of Crummuck Water and Buttermere were once one, but were separated by the alluvium left by Sail Beck.
