The Anchor

A Memory of Deepfields.

I was born on the Anchor in 1941. The houses were set back from the road with rough patch of ground in front of them where Pat Collin's fair used to set up every year in the summer. From the canal bridge on the left was the pub, The Anchor (Arthur Baines), attached to a row of terraced houses (Silla and her sister, the Weberleys, Richard’s, Littlehales), then the big entry. The other side of the entry was the big house (the coaching house I think) which was split into 2, the Meldons at the front and us at the back facing a sort of courtyard with 2 cottages backing onto the canal. My gran lived in 1 and aunt Bertha and uncle Dave in the other.
The pub and the houses were demolished in about mid 1950's and replaced by factories.
Has anyone any old photos or memories,I would love to know.
