Delamere I Hated It
A Memory of Delamere.
I was at Delamere from 1972-1975 my name then was Susan Caplan Mr Steven Lewis was our head master his wife was called sue if i remember they had 2 children . I remember going there and was put in a dorm but was given a room on the end because i was one of the older girls then after a while move to the new block where it was much more private . I remember some of the staff a teacher called Miss Mc Alpine who was nice Miss Wren was a nurse who all of us hated she was so strict Mr Willshaw was the caretaker he lived in the cottage next to the school and used to teach us wood work i remember making a dolls crib with him . I remember the sweets kept in the dinning room if we was good we was allowed sweets on a Wednesday and Saterday only one thing though if you was naughty you got nothing for a week .I also remember two girls running away they made it all the way home only to be brought back the same night they got in so much trouble for that they had asked me to run away with them i'm so glad i didn't .If i remember one of the was called Sharon Singer can't remember the other girl's name. School never learnt you much as i can remember .In 1973 i got made head girl and a boy called Franklyn Beckerman was head boy we did have some privilges was allowed to stay up abit later then the other children .We did a few shows like Joseph and Jonah . every year we would go on the same trip to Conway and we would get an ice cream for a treat lol how sad . Visiting from parents and family was once a month i hated that day would cry my eyes out and beg my mum and dad to take me home .Then not long before i left they started having weekends at home i did have a few but then i was sent home for good in the summer of 1975 . I never went back there after that day i did have a the odd time when i was happy but most of all i hated it . In the words of Judy Garland There's No Place Like Home .As i'm now a mother of 3 wonderful children and a grandmother of 5 wonderful grandchildren i could not imagin sending them away ever .....
