What does this mean?

This image is a coloured postcard: These coloured postcards were produced by the Frith company in the 1950s and 60s, in the earliest days of coloured postcard production, and were printed using a process called collo-colour. Although the results look quite basic to modern eyes, used to the wonders of the modern printing process, these postcards have a certain period charm as delightfully nostalgic ephemera items from the not-so-distant past.

Childhood Memories
I have very happy childhood memories of my mother taking us to caddys in Dewsbury, I remember enjoying a glass of pop in a tall glass with a scoop of ice cream on top. I believe that people came from far and wide for the ice cream was superb. Happy days.

Fond Memories Of Dewsbury Market

I ran a knitting yarn stall for nearly 30 years on Dewsbury market from 1968 and made many friends of my customers and stall holders.I well remember Stan Collier who ran the market café,Bill Wilby,curtain fabric,Jack Anderson general goods,Harry Arry glasswear,Tuppeny Anne,toys,and Ken Dean,pet supplies.In fact I bought a Chipmunk from Ken.although it was hard work in all weathers they were happy ...see more

Department Store

As a young girl my grandma used to take me to dewsbury every Saturday and we always went to meet my auntie in Bickers? Cafe I remember it was very posh they used to bring a selection of cakes and buns to your table, very similar to Bettys Tea Room... Then I would get a bag of the best toffee I ever tasted from the market think it was a family business they had every toffee you can think of, my favourite was toffee ...see more

Caddies Ice Cream Parlour
The ice cream parlour was at the back of The Princess Of Wales Precinct in Dewsbury, it is now a car park, what a complete waste of a lovely business, but the problem was the family refused to sell the recipe to anyone else, what a shame it was the best ice cream you ever tasted, bring back Caddies. Sunday's were never the same. SuSan

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
