More about this scene
Sited imperiously overlooking the bowling green is the fine Victorian residence Merevale; its foundation stone is dated 7 September 1893. The villa, demolished in August 1973, had been home to key figures in the community. One such occupant was Lillie Thomas, an honorary Commander of the Red Cross who did sterling work organising local facilities for the convalescence of the wounded home from the First World War.
