More about this scene
We are looking towards Baxtergate and the Clock Corner (built 1894). We can see the 15th-century tower of St George's church on the horizon (left). This was rebuilt to the designs of Sir Gilbert Scott in 1858 after a major fire five years earlier. On the right are Burton's the tailor and the Nag's Head, built in 1930. The shops and stores on the left were demolished in the last decade to make way for the new Frenchgate shopping centre.
