Born In Doxey

A Memory of Doxey.

Hello readers, I was born in Doxey and have fond childhood memories of the village as it then was. I lived at 227 whilst Granny (Picken) lived next door at 226. Granny and her first husband Harry Parsons kept the Castle Tavern on Doxey Road from about 1902 and continued after Harry's death with her second husband Thomas Picken. My childhood buddy was Cedric Machin who sadly died in a road accident. Dad (Bert) was formerly an auctioneer but later on worked at EEC. Grandfather Harnett was a founder member of Universal Grinding Wheel co. when the company relocated ( Moser West and Bateman) from Greenwich where Dad was born.
I was later a founder member of Stafford Morris Men and a regular member of Stafford Folk Dance Club and played in what was then called the Stafford Square Dance Band with Richard (Dick) Pitman and Terry Baddiley.
If anyone remembers myself or any of the Harnett clan I would be very pleased to hear from you. Regards, Mike
