More about this scene

The stone cross was erected to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Kimmeridge clay bricks, used to rebuild the village after it was badly damaged by fire in the 19th century, were made behind the Wheatsheaf. The tree beside the cross has now gone, and the Wheatsheaf only has one front entrance today.
