More about this scene
This final view from the castle keep looks due south across the bus station in Porter's Field. Trindle Road runs across the centre of the picture, whilst the corner of Hall Street can be seen centre right. A mixture of Midland Red and Birmingham Corporation buses circle the bus station, whilst the National Projectile Factory dominates the skyline. This massive works was erected in 1915 for the production of artillery shells in the build-up to the big push on the Somme in 1916. After the war it was sold to the Co- operative Wholesale Society, who used it to manufacture hollowware, mainly buckets!
