Burningfold Hall Hotel
A Memory of Dunsfold.
My name is Laura Evison. I stayed at Burningfold twice for about 5 months each time. I especially remember my second visit in 1958 when I was 11 yrs old. My Dad was in the British Foreign Service in Chicago, IL USA. Burningfold Hall Hotel was run by Mr. & Mrs. Lovell Williamson. I attended the Dunsfold Village School, Mr. Bampton was the Head Master. I remember friends Anne and Tina (Tina used to ask me to say words like "horse" with the American "R"--screamingly funny at age 11 !!), playing rounders & 5-stones, doing sums in $ instead of pounds & shillings, explaining the Keep Chicago Clean campaign, going to the church for religious instruction from the Vicar, and many lovely times at the Hotel. I recognize the photo of the Post Office, as I had a small savings account there, given to me by my Grandparents in Worthing. I often wonder if I would find anyone I knew if I came to visit now, or if I could see Burningfold Hall again. The gardens we're beautiful. I spend time mostly in Bangalore India and Chicago; I am a retired midwife, lecturer, & information tech specialist. Fondest Regards, Laura
