More about this scene
Though originally a market town, Dursley has long benefited from the presence of local industries making such things as agricultural machinery, diesel engines and furniture. Chief engineer at the well-known Dursley firm of Lister's in the 1890s was Mikael Pedersen. Cyclists have much to thank this Dane for, as he invented the Dursley-Pedersen bike. Before this there had been penny farthings, hobby horses, bikes with wooden frames and all manner of machines. But Pedersen's design was the grandfather of the modern cycle as we know it.
