More about this scene
This well-known manor house was built by Sir William Fermor during the reign of Henry VII. Other families who lived here were the Calthorpes and Le Stranges. The gatehouse has the arms of England and the ensigns of the Tudors and wonderful ornamental brickwork, with shields and medallions interspersed with the coats of arms of Henry of Lancaster and Elizabeth of York between Tudor roses. Henry VIII was a guest in 1511, and walked 2 miles barefoot to the shrine at Walsingham.
