More about this scene
At the west end of the High Street, London Road curves away north-west downhill. The Swan Hotel on the left, an 18th-century building, has just had its ground floor reworked in this view; it was owned by the Southdown and East Grinstead Breweries, whose brewery was further down London Road. Beyond is Brinkhurst the saddlers. Both went in the early 1960s. Lloyds Bank is on the right. Much downhill has gone, to be replaced by neo-Georgian shops.
