For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from East Ham

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I'm not from East Ham but my Grandad served with the 141st HB which was formed in East Ham in 1915, they billeted in local schools. Any ideas of local names of schools? I think they used Clockhouse and Manor Farms, he used to mention a place called Mansfields on the Romford Rd which was also used by the 141st. Has anyone heard of it and what and where was it? Any info, however small is a massive stride for me. I'm sure there are some budding historians there that could help me
Does anyone remember Robert and Margret Holder? Robert was a firefighter and Margret was a housewife. They had two children. I was looking for Jackie(Jacqueline)their daughter who went to Plashet School and then to Barking Colledge.
My Nan Jessie Turvey & her husband Jim (my grandfather who died in 1964 I think) lived on Plashet Grove next door to a Mrs Lescombe (spelling ?)from sometime in the 1930's until the mid 1970's. They had 2 daughters my mother Angela Jean born in October 1935 & my aunt Christine Jennifer born in 1946. Her brother & his wife Alec & Rene Hurley also lived there during the late 1940's & 1950's. Does anyone remember them at all please?
I lived in East Ham from the time i was born til i was 30 then moved to Essex. Does anyone remember the sweet shop on the way to Burgess Manor. Think it was in the road down the side of The White Horse pub. or may be not. I was at one time friendly with the daughter Stephenie Cradock. Pretty sure she spelt her name with an E not an A. Remember her Dad's name was Steve and the shop was on a corner, i think. Nice girl, ...see more
