More about this scene
At the west end of Eastbourne the Reverend Mother Harriet Brownlow Brown, an Anglican nun, founded All Saints Hospital in 1867 which opened in 1869. Immediately to its south she built this convalescent home in the 1880s in Victorian Gothic style. The western slopes up towards Beachy Head were much favoured for convalescent homes, for they were considered very healthy.
