The view looking beyond the Lansdowne Hotel and the Grand Hotel is now dominated by South Cliff Tower, an eighteen-storey block of flats about which the words 'sore thumb' come unbidden to mind: an example of the sort of tower block that all south coast resorts seemed to need.
