Eastham, Bridle Road c.1960

More about this scene
Running at right angles to each other, Eastham Rake and Bridle Road link at the junction with Stanley Lane and the A41 - New Chester Road. Far from maintaining the sort of quietude suggested here, today both are major access roads to local public transport, the oil storage installation and the beautiful Country Park. Generations of residents have worked to remove traffic from the narrow, winding village streets and the main road to Chester ran through the village until the by- pass was built in the 1930s. Recently the local authority has authorised additional traffic calming measures to be placed at the junctions of the by-pass with Village Road - the B5132 - as drivers use the old road to avoid congestion and forget their road manners as they progress.
