More about this scene
The Hooton branch of the Stanleys all lie here in the church, including Sir Rowland Stanley, who died aged 96 in 1613. It is inscribed on his brass grave plate that he saw his son's son's son settled in Hooton, and was the oldest Knight in all England. Among the gravestones are those of many young men who perished learning to fly at nearby Hooton Air Strip. Philip Thickness, the man who designed the Cunard building in Liverpool, also lies here. He designed the white stone crucifixion panel in the Stanley Chapel.
