Egton Bridge, The Bridge c.1885

More about this scene
This is seemingly a quiet place on the Esk Valley that runs down to Whitby, but this bridge was swept away in a flood on 23 July 1930. It was rebuilt in 1992 in the style of the original. The coming of the railway to Grosmont in 1845 did much to allow town dwellers a glimpse of a forgotten way of life. The Esk Valley line still runs along the route of the river through some beautiful scenery, with stops all the way. Visit Egton in August to enjoy the annual gooseberry show.
