More about this scene

Elland is a small town built around the industries of woollen mills, textiles, and quarries for coal, stone and clay. The railway came to Elland before Halifax: it was on the Manchester to Leeds line from 1839. This Town Hall (1887) was never used for administrative purposes, but rather as a community hall for the town. The clock was added in 1909, and the hall bears the motto of the Savile family: 'Be Fast'.

Bitter Sweet Memories
The town of Elland has bitter sweet memories for me, I was born in 1961 the middle one of three children to my dad Wallace Hawkins and my mum Joan Hawkins nee Smith. My mum died in 1964 while we lived in New street (my earliest memory is that street), I was brought up by my grandma the late Martha Smith at Grove mills place Elland lane a short walk to my grandma Hawkins house at No3 Springfield rd . However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
