Childhood Memory
A Memory of Fair Oak.
I was born in 1949 and lived at the top of Haig Road. The road, at that time was a stoney lane. As you turned into the lane there were a few houses to the right and a sand pit to the left. At the top of the hill were 6 houses on the left, I lived at number 34. A bit further along was Instralls farm. The area where I lived was, for me, the most beautiful place on earth. I remember the little chicks and piglets born in spring, the magic of the blossom on the trees in the apple orchard, the people working in the feilds, harvesting crops. Running across the feilds picking bunches of primroses and violets. The sound of the sawmill. Walking through the woods. The bus ride into Eastleigh, passing fields of corn and wheat with poppies growing in between. My home, a place I loved. At the age of 6 my father was promoted so we left the beauty of the countryside and moved to London. The house I lived in still remains, although the number and look has changed. Fond memories of a happy time. A time and place where a part of me will always remain.
