The castle was briefly owned by Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who later presented it to the Duke of Norfolk. By one of those twists of fate the Duke, along with Richard, was killed at Bosworth in August 1485. The following year Sir Walter Hungerford regained the castle for his family, the twist being that Sir Walter had been knighted on the field of Bosworth.

I visited the old post office with my mother in the early to mid 1960's. I believe that my mother was related to the lady who ran the post office and the little shop, perhaps a cousin.
