More about this scene
When the railway arrived in 1877, it did not just create Felixstowe as a place for seaside trippers. The spa and gardens made it far more genteel and upmarket. It even catered for the Empress of Germany, who came here in 1891. Forty-five years later, Mrs Wallis Simpson was resident in Felixstowe during the abdication crisis.
