Born In Ferndale - a Memory of Ferndale.

My maiden name was Bertorelli , my parents were John and Lena and had the fish shop at 39 Duffryn Street. Lots may remember my older brothers . Frank , Lewi, John, Ronnie Mario-my elder sister is Julia and our youngest sister is Tania.
The family moved to Bridgend in 1957 . Sadly the boys have since passed away but we three girls are keeping the Italian traditions going. I lived most of the time at 20 Albany Street before moving to Bridgend.

My mother came from tyn-y-coed just off long row, ferndale. It was a house split in two down a deep reveen but I have fond memories of memorable holidays there as a child. Her maiden name was Slattery and she had two sisters who lived there too. My grandfather James Slattery was a coal miner who worked in the local pits and mum would often tell us stories and share memories of her time as she would put it 'down home'. I even remember her talking about the name Bertorelli.

My fathers family were from Ferndale and I think I vaguely remember a mention of the name Bertorelli! They were the Walsh and Parr families, but moved away after/during the War as Grandpa Walsh (Bartholomew) was moving to London to be secretary of NACODS.
