Early Memories
A Memory of Fidge.
I was born in a house at Fidge in September 1948.
My Dad was stationed in Orkney during the war.He was a leading Aircraftsman and worked on spitfires and hurricanes. After the war he stayed on a Croft near the aerodrome. My Dad rented the croft from Margaret Garson. My Mum and Dad made their living from keeping hens in one of the nissan huts. They made a lot of lifelong friends there. We unfortunately left Orkney in 1952 so that my Dad could find work in the aircraft industry. I wonder if the house is still there as I have some good memories of Orkney. My brother Robbie went to his first school there.
